Based on 2,714 reviewsMP Island Café is widely recognized for its authentic Caribbean and West Indian cuisine, particularly its well-seasoned jerk chicken and flavorful sides. Reviewers frequently highlight the restaurant’s warm, welcoming atmosphere enhanced by vibrant decor that reflects island culture. Customers appreciate the extensive menu options, including both ready-to-eat meals and a diverse grocery section, catering to dine-in, takeout, and cooking at home. The staff are consistently described as friendly and attentive, though some feedback suggests adding more cashiers to improve service speed during busy times. Overall, MP Island Café is praised for delivering a genuine taste of home-style cooking with a variety of beverages and an inviting island vibe.
MP Island Café has amazing food and a wide selection to choose from when dining in or taking out. The staff are friendly and take your order promptly. The beverage selection is wide and so is the alcohol (beer) selection. The best food (in my opinion) is the jerk chicken [white meat] and the two sides as a choice of mac and cheese. There is plenty of seating since a majority of the customers order out or get delivery. You can listen to their music while you eat and it isn’t loud in there at all. Overall, MP Island Café is a great place to go for food whether you’re eating out, dining in, or delivering to your home.
Great staff, tasty food, they just need one more cashier to keep the line moving. Servers are really nice!
I love the island! Great food great people great products, the triple threat. I mostly go for the hot food but they have excellent grocery section with a lot of variety of food and beverages, from ready to eat to fresh as can be and I’ll take it home and cook it on up. I’ve never had a bad experience there, ever! The food is so good, it’s amazing it’s the best home cooking and there’s so much to choose from , but I love having that problem because I grew up in a family of eaters we love I mean love good food
The jerk chicken was good and spicy The cabbage was my favorite and it just needed a little more seasoning for my liking.
MP Island Cafe is an absolute gem for anyone craving authentic West Indian cuisine. From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted with island vibes — reggae colors, tropical décor, and a warm “Wah Gwaan” that makes you feel right at home. The food is incredible. Their jerk chicken is perfectly seasoned and cooked to perfection — smoky, spicy, and tender — and the jerk sauce is on another level. They also offer a wide variety of classic Caribbean dishes like saltfish and ackee, dumplings, oxtail, and much more. Every plate tastes homemade and full of flavor. Beyond the restaurant, MP Island Cafe doubles as a Caribbean grocery store, so you can grab essentials like dasheen bush, yams, or island spices to recreate your favorite meals at home. If you’re looking for authentic Caribbean food with great prices, friendly service, and a true island atmosphere, MP Island Cafe is the place to go. Highly recommended!
I LOVE good Caribbean food. I was excited when I found this restaurant/store when out of town. First, let me say that the staff is Awesome!! They made the visit. Everything about this place was welcoming for us. 2nd- The prices in the store and restaurant were definitely reasonable. 3rd- The food was good. I enjoyed the patties and my son devoured his ox tail. The portions size was great, as we had some left over. In addition to the restaurant, I was able to get some favorites in the store that I can’t find at stores near me. I will definitely go there again if I am in the area.
So I went my favorite Caribbean spot in Norfolk and was NOT disappointed (as usual). I ordered Curry chicken with Rice & Peas and Mac & Cheese as well as Jerk chicken with Rice & Peas and Cabbage with a side of Plantains. . I got home and a healthy portion of each item and made ONE BIG PLATE. My inner Fatboy is very happy. S/N: I am 142lbs soaking wet and CRUSHED the whole thing, I was going to get more, but had to save some for my girl Again, they have never disappointed me #LilYankeeGtBoy
Cynthia..Antoinette and Leo made a delicious meal enjoyable. Its so great to find actual home cooking admission all the processed food chains. Jamaican style is amazing. I love the curry. Think it was chicken i actually got veggie plate but curry had meat but oh my is it good. Im not a vegetarian just wanted something nourishing. So it hit the spot. Its Cafe style & not real fancy. Im a designer so ambience is big with me. So thats the only negative I have. If ya decide re redecorate let me know. But otd a fun place. Would recommend
